The Safer Arlanda Network
The aim and purpose of the network is to counteract the occurrence of human trafficking for a safer Arlanda for both customers and employees, and to draw attention to the victims who are trapped in today's slave trade. The network started in the autumn of 2018 and consists of actors in and around Stockholm Arlanda Airport.
What is trafficking?
Human trafficking, or trafficking, is an organized transport of people that aims to exploit them for various purposes. It is a crime that occurs all over the world and is often referred to as the slavery of our time. It takes place in countries of origin, transit and destination, that is to say, countries from which the victims come and countries through which they pass until they reach the country of destination where they are exploited.
What is the situation in Sweden?
Sweden is above all a transit and destination country. Many times, the crime takes place across borders and it is often part of organized crime. The victims are exploited for different purposes and in different forms, for example for sexual ones in the form of prostitution or forced labour in the form of berry picking or construction work. Human trafficking is today the second largest organized crime in the world and according to the UN, the slave trade has a turnover of 32 billion dollars annually. Women and children are the ones who are most affected.
How does the network work at Arlanda?
The network A Safer Arlanda works to create awareness of what human trafficking is and increase knowledge about the nature of crime at an airport and its surrounding environment. All participating actors collaborate in the work and the network is an arena for the exchange of experience and knowledge in order to be able to act in cases where human trafficking occurs and in cases where someone who is a victim of human trafficking asks for help.
