Waste management
Here you will find information on how to handle business waste and hazardous waste at the airport.
Operational waste
Waste can be left in:
- Tenant-shared recycling rooms
- Airport recycling centre
Businesses are encouraged to sort waste according to the types of waste that are marked on site. See also Swedavia's waste sorting guide Källsorteringsguide.pdf
Depending on the location, there are different options for sorting. Among other things, the following types of waste can be sorted:
- Recycled paper (incl. newspapers)
- Corrugated board
- Hard plastic packaging
- Other plastic packaging
- Tinted glass
- Non-tinted glass
- Metal packaging
- Paper packaging
- Shortening (from air fryers)
- Compost (food waste)
- Wood
- Combustible waste
- Landfill residues (e.g. porcelain)
- Textile waste
All of the above waste is handled by Swedavia's waste contractor: Stena Recycling.
Hazardous waste
Hazardous waste must not be left in:
- Tenant-shared recycling rooms
- Airport recycling centre (Recycling Centre)
Each actor is responsible for ensuring that hazardous waste:
- Handled correctly
- Documented
- Reported to the Swedish Environmental Protection Agency
This can be done:
- Own
- Via an approved waste contractor (by proxy)
To leave hazardous waste at the Recycling Centre, the following is required:
- Separate agreement with Swedavia's waste contractor Stena Recycling
This applies to all hazardous waste, including so-called office-like hazardous waste, such as:
- Small batteries
- Light sources
- Office Electronics
More information about reporting can be found at Naturvårdsverket.
